Overview
Kanji Time is a Japanese language learning clock application for iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what data the app does and does not collect.
Short version: Kanji Time collects absolutely no personal data. Everything runs on your device.
Data Collection
Kanji Time does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information.
Specifically, the app does not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Your location or GPS data
- Your device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV, or similar)
- Usage analytics or crash reports sent to a third party
- Behavioral data or interaction history
- Health or financial information
- Any information about you whatsoever
How the App Works
All features of Kanji Time operate entirely on your device using Apple’s built-in frameworks:

Text-to-Speech
Kanji Time uses Apple’s on-device text-to-speech engine (AVSpeechSynthesizer) to read content aloud. Japanese content uses the Japanese (ja-JP) voice. English translations use an English (en-US) voice. All processing happens entirely on your device. No audio is recorded. No text is transmitted to any server.
On some devices, Apple may download an enhanced voice model over Wi-Fi if you have not previously used that language’s TTS. This download is managed entirely by iOS and is not initiated or controlled by Kanji Time.
App Settings
The app saves your preferences to your device’s local storage using Apple’s UserDefaults system. Saved settings include: selected time zone, phonetic reading mode, seconds display, kana rotation interval, content panel selections, background theme, and first-launch state for the prefecture panel. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to the developer or any third party.
Children’s Privacy
Kanji Time does not collect any data from users of any age, including children under 13. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for all ages.
In-App Purchases (Optional Tips)
Kanji Time offers optional tip purchases (Chiisai Tip, Chudo Tip, and Okii Tip) as a way for users to support the app. No features are locked or unlocked by these purchases. They are processed entirely by Apple through their standard in-app purchase system (StoreKit). Kanji Time does not receive, store, or have access to any payment or billing information. Apple’s handling of purchase data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Third-Party Services
Kanji Time does not use any third-party SDKs, analytics services, advertising networks, or crash reporting tools. The only external service involved is Apple’s App Store payment system for optional tips, which is managed entirely by Apple.
Changes to This Policy
If a future version of the app introduces any data collection, this policy will be updated before that version is released and users will be notified via App Store release notes.
