Overview

My Writing Tools is a format-aware writing companion for screenwriters, novelists, and bloggers. This policy explains what data the app does and does not collect.

Short version: My Writing Tools does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. Your writing never leaves your devices except through Apple’s iCloud sync to your own private iCloud account, and through exports you explicitly initiate.

Data Collection

My Writing Tools does not collect:

  • Personal information of any kind
  • Usage analytics or telemetry
  • Behavioral data or interaction history
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Any information that leaves your device (beyond iCloud sync to your own account)

What the App Stores

  • Your documents, projects, and continuity notes are stored locally on your device.
  • If iCloud is enabled, this data syncs through your private iCloud account (Apple CloudKit) so it is available on your other devices. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, is tied to your personal Apple Account, and is never visible to the developer.
  • App preferences (theme, voice, reading speed, format settings) are stored locally on your device.

What the App Does Not Do

  • No accounts. No sign-up. No login.
  • No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking of any kind.
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
  • No third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services.
  • No text is ever sent to any server for analysis. All proofreading, formatting analysis, and text-to-speech happen entirely on your device.

Read Aloud

Read Aloud offers two voice options, both of which generate speech entirely on your device — your text is never uploaded for voice generation:

  • System voices use Apple’s built-in on-device speech synthesis. No network connection is made.
  • Natural Voice is an optional, higher-quality voice you can choose to enable. When you tap to download it, the app fetches the voice model files — the software that produces the voice, not any of your text — from a public model host. After that one-time download, all speech is generated on your device with no further network use. You can delete the downloaded voice at any time from the Read Aloud menu.

The Natural Voice model runs through an open-source, on-device machine-learning library (ONNX Runtime) bundled with the app. It performs computation locally only and transmits nothing.

Network Connections

The app connects to the internet only in these cases, and never to send your writing or any personal information:

  • iCloud sync (if you enable it) — syncs your documents through your own private iCloud account, handled by Apple.
  • Natural Voice download (if you choose it) — downloads voice-model files once, as described above.

With iCloud sync off and Natural Voice not downloaded, the app makes no network connections at all.

Exports and Sharing

When you export a file or copy text, that content goes only where you send it (AirDrop, Files, the app you paste into). The app does not retain or transmit copies.

Children’s Privacy

My Writing Tools does not collect any data from users of any age, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Because the app collects nothing, meaningful changes are unlikely.
